Documentary & Discussion

Free Program Presented by Sandy Rusak
2:30 - 3:30 PM, Coe Gallery

Sandy Rusak, Director of Education at the North Carolina Museum of Art, will lead a conversation about the work of contemporary artist, El Anatsui. Using 8 video shorts that explain and document the artist’s work, Rusak will introduce attendees to one of today’s most renowned contemporary artists.

His work is featured in the exhibition, “El Anatsui: When I Last Wrote to You about Africa” on view at the NCMA through July 29, 2012.

Absinthe: A Documentary

Join Absinthe producer Seth Buddy for a film screening and absinthe tasting. The film traces absinthe's arc: from its birth in Switzerland in 1787, through its rise in the chic cafés of Belle Époque Paris, to its prohibition, and its recent worldwide revival.

Presented in conjunction with Waking Up with Van Gogh.

Family Workshop

Recycled Art Project
1 - 3 PM
FREE, registration required

The North Carolina Museum of Art will offer a free family workshop at HMA to the first 25 individuals who sign up. Parents/Guardians and their children, ages 5 – 12, are invited to create artwork made from wood and recycled materials. (Please note that hammers, nails, wiring, wood and recycling materials will be used. Parents/Guardians must assist their children during the art process.)
